Selten and Watch Ho & Co. Launch "Yum Cha" Edition Watch

Independent watch brand Selten has collaborated with the watch community platform Watch Ho & Co. to release a limited-edition timepiece named the "Yum Cha" edition. This watch, restricted to 100 pieces globally, marks the third anniversary of Watch Ho & Co. and is designed to evoke the personal childhood memories of its founder, Jackie Ho, who recalls visiting traditional Hong Kong tea houses with his grandparents. The design intentionally deviates from common horological themes like motorsport or military aesthetics, instead focusing on the familial warmth, cultural rituals, and culinary heritage associated with dim sum.

The central feature of the "Yum Cha" edition is its dial, which is meticulously hand-engraved and crafted from Grand Feu enamel. This intricate work is intended to replicate the detailed weave pattern found in traditional bamboo dim sum steamer baskets. The process of creating each dial is labor-intensive, requiring approximately 16.5 hours of dedicated work from Selten's master engraver and enamelist, Master Qin. This involves around 3,500 individual hand cuts and multiple high-temperature firing stages to achieve the desired enamel finish. The dial's color gradient transitions from a warm honey-gold to an amber fumé, a deliberate choice to mimic the aged patina of wooden steamers that have been used over many years. Complementing the dial are custom diamond-cut hands shaped to resemble tea leaves.

The timepiece is housed within a 38mm stainless steel case, measuring 9.95mm in thickness, and features a prominent top-hat sapphire crystal. Powering the watch is the manual-wind Sellita SW210-2 M Power+ movement. This movement provides a substantial 65-hour power reserve and is regulated to maintain accuracy within ±6 seconds per day. The thematic connection to dim sum culture extends beyond the dial to the solid engraved caseback, which depicts a sentimental family meal scene. The presentation of the watch is equally thoughtful, including a handcrafted bamboo steamer, bamboo coasters, and a warranty card designed to resemble a classic Hong Kong dim sum order sheet, further immersing the owner in the cultural narrative.

The "Yum Cha" edition watch is priced at $4,950 USD. The collaboration between Selten, known for its independent watchmaking, and Watch Ho & Co., a platform focused on the watch community, highlights a growing trend of niche collaborations that draw inspiration from cultural heritage and personal stories.
