Seiko Releases Six Limited-Edition "Edo Purple" Watches

Seiko is celebrating its 145th anniversary by releasing six limited-edition timepieces inspired by "Edo purple," a traditional Japanese color historically associated with Tokyo. This collection, named after the former name of Tokyo, aims to blend historical symbolism with contemporary watchmaking, reflecting Seiko's founding principle of "Always one step ahead of the rest." The "Edo purple" hue, combined with gold accents, signifies both the legacy of Edo and Seiko's ongoing dedication to innovation and aesthetic appeal in its timepieces. These new watches will be available globally in October 2026, each produced in a limited quantity.

The commemorative series features six distinct models distributed across Seiko's prominent watch families. The Prospex line, known for its sports and adventure watches, includes two new models. The Prospex Alpinist Mechanical (Ref. HBC006) is a modern interpretation of the original 1959 Alpinist, featuring a purple dial, distinctive wedge-shaped hour markers, the "Alpinist" logotype, and a strap made from LWG-certified leather. This model is limited to 7,000 units. The second Prospex addition is the Prospex Speedtimer Solar Chronograph (Ref. HBJ005), which utilizes the Caliber V192 movement. This chronograph boasts a dial with purple accents and a tachymeter bezel, with a production run of 8,000 pieces.

Further expanding the collection is the high-technology Seiko Astron GPS Solar Dual-Time Chronograph (Ref. HAB011). This model is equipped with the Caliber 5X83 and showcases a unique purple dial with a vertical gradation and a horizontal line pattern. Its case is constructed from titanium, and the center links of its bracelet are made of ceramic. The Astron is the most exclusive of the Prospex models, with only 2,000 units being produced.

In addition to the Prospex and Astron lines, the anniversary celebration includes three more models that lean into lifestyle and heritage. The Seiko Presage Cocktail Time (Ref. HCB006) draws inspiration from the "Edo Purple" cocktail, expertly crafted by Hisashi Kishi, the owner of STAR BAR. This watch features a translucent purple dial adorned with gold-flake highlights and includes a GMT hand. It will be available in a limited edition of 6,000 pieces. The Seiko 5 Sports SKX (Ref. HDB003) reimagines the iconic SKX diver watch silhouette, presenting a deep purple dial complemented by gold accents and a glossy Hardlex bezel. This model is part of the Seiko 5 Sports collection, which is recognized for its durable and stylish automatic watches, often serving as an accessible entry point into mechanical watchmaking for enthusiasts.
