Ryusuke Hamaguchi Film 'All of a Sudden' Set for Nov. 25 Release

Neon has scheduled a November 25 theatrical release date for "All of a Sudden," the newest film from writer-director Ryusuke Hamaguchi. The film made its debut in competition at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year. At the festival, lead actresses Virginie Efira and Okamoto Tao jointly received the award for best actress. Virginie Efira is also slated to receive the Leopard Club Award separately. The film's narrative centers on a man who discovers his wife is having an affair and subsequently confronts her lover. The screenplay was co-written by Hamaguchi and Tomoyuki Takahashi, with the original story by Sayaka Murata. "All of a Sudden" is based on Murata's 2021 novel of the same name. The cast includes Virginie Efira, Okamoto Tao, and Kento Nagayama. Neon acquired the North American distribution rights to the film in May. The film's premiere at Cannes marked its first public screening. Hamaguchi's previous work, "Drive My Car," won the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film in 2022. "All of a Sudden" is expected to be a strong contender during the upcoming awards season, building on the critical acclaim from its Cannes debut.
