Roblox Fails to Block Adults Preying on Children

Roblox is still failing to adequately protect children from adult exploitation on its platform, according to Julie Inman Grant, Australia's eSafety commissioner, who spoke on Thursday. Despite implementing changes in the fall of 2023 aimed at blocking adults from messaging unknown children, these measures have proven insufficient to prevent other forms of predatory behavior. These connection requests did not trigger any parental alerts, further undermining child safety. The eSafety commissioner also highlighted that malicious actors could exploit the platform's features to find more targets by searching children's contact lists, which were also visible to anyone on Roblox. This lack of robust privacy controls and effective alert systems allows predators to identify and connect with minors.
