Rivian Axed Its Least Expensive R1s, the Dual Motor Standard Pack

Rivian discontinued the dual-motor, standard-pack configuration for its 2026 R1T and R1S models, a move that increases the base price of both vehicles by $7,000. The company announced this change on May 23, 2024, alongside updates that boost the standard range for the remaining configurations by 59 miles. The previous dual-motor, standard-pack R1S was priced at $74,900, while the R1T started at $69,900. The updated 2026 R1T and R1S models will now start at $76,900 and $81,900 respectively, with the dual-motor, large-pack configuration offering an estimated 352 miles of range, a 59-mile increase over the previous dual-motor, large-pack model. The quad-motor, large-pack variant will now have an estimated range of 341 miles, also a 59-mile improvement. This strategic adjustment aims to streamline production and potentially improve profit margins for the electric vehicle manufacturer.
