2027 VW Atlas Redesign Increases Base Price

The second-generation Volkswagen Atlas was unveiled this week, featuring a significant redesign that includes a more potent powertrain and an enhanced interior. The 2027 model year Atlas moves away from the previous 3.6-liter V6 engine, opting instead for a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. This new base engine is rated at 269 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, representing an increase over the outgoing V6's 276 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque, but with improved efficiency and a broader torque band. The transmission has also been updated to an 8-speed automatic, replacing the previous 8-speed automatic.

Inside, the 2027 Atlas boasts a more premium feel, with Volkswagen emphasizing upgraded materials and a more refined cabin experience. Standard features across the lineup now include a 12-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster, improvements over the previous model's smaller screens. Higher trims will offer additional luxury amenities, aiming to position the Atlas more competitively in the increasingly upscale three-row SUV segment. Volkswagen has also incorporated more advanced driver-assistance systems as standard equipment, enhancing safety and convenience for families.

However, these enhancements come with a notable increase in the starting price. The base model 2027 Volkswagen Atlas will begin at an MSRP of $37,995, which is $2,000 more than the 2024 model's starting price of $35,995. This price adjustment reflects the updated technology, improved powertrain, and more luxurious interior appointments. Volkswagen aims to justify the higher cost by offering a more compelling and competitive package within the crowded mid-size SUV market, particularly appealing to buyers seeking a blend of space, comfort, and modern features.
