Razer has introduced new gaming keyboards that aim to make advanced gaming features more accessible by incorporating magnetic switches at a lower price point. The company, historically advocating for optical keyboard switches as superior for competitive esports and dedicated gamers, is now broadening its appeal with models that utilize magnetic switch technology. The newly launched models include the Razer Huntsman V3 HE Magnetic Mini, priced at $120, and the Razer Huntsman V3 HE Magnetic Tenkeyless, available for $140. These keyboards retain many of the high-performance features that Razer is known for, but substitute the more expensive optical switches with magnetic ones. Magnetic switches operate using a magnet and a Hall effect sensor, allowing for actuation based on the proximity of the magnet within the keycap. This mechanism can enable faster actuation speeds and a longer lifespan compared to traditional mechanical switches, and Razer is leveraging this technology to offer a competitive edge at a reduced cost.

While Razer has championed optical switches, which use a beam of light to register a keystroke, for their speed and durability, the higher cost associated with this technology has been a barrier for some consumers. Both keyboards are equipped with Razer's proprietary Analog Optical technology, which allows for adjustable actuation points and rapid trigger functionality. Rapid Trigger enables keys to reset immediately upon lifting the keycap, offering a significant advantage in fast-paced games where rapid, repeated inputs are crucial.
