David Hockney's 1995 artwork "Dog Painting 17" achieved a sale price of $3 million USD at Christie's London on October 14. The painting, which features Hockney's first dachshund, Stanley, resting in a dog bed, was part of the artist's "Dog Series" created between 1994 and 1995. This particular piece is one of only six known works from the "Dog Series" to remain in private collections, with the remaining works held by the David Hockney Foundation. The auction house estimated the painting's value between £1.5 million and £2.5 million GBP, equivalent to approximately $1.99 million to $3.3 million USD. Tessa Lord, Christie's head of postwar and contemporary art, described the painting as "extraordinarily rare" and highlighted its significance. The artwork is noted for embodying the spontaneous and fluid brushwork characteristic of Hockney's style.
