Puma and Hypebeast Host London Music Event

Puma and Hypebeast collaborated to host "Suede Sessions" last week in London, an event held under the arches of Waterloo. This event was inspired by the iconic Puma Suede silhouette and its connection to generations of music subcultures, aiming to highlight the diverse sounds and eclectic genres currently shaping the local music scene. The inaugural "Suede Sessions" featured drummer and composer Yussef Dayes, who served as the central figure uniting emerging and established artists through a distinctive two-part format. This format included an artist workshop followed by a live performance later in the day. Yussef Dayes, known for his genre-blending jazz, initiated the event with a music-making session. This workshop functioned as a creative incubator, where Dayes offered guidance to participants to help them refine their musical styles. Following collaborative efforts, the workshop concluded with a collective jam session, allowing artists to present their newest material to the assembled group. Several hours after the workshop, the venue was transformed for a live performance headlined by Dayes himself. The performance space was illuminated with moody orange lighting, and the walls around the main stage featured spray-painted branding, echoing the graffiti-adorned tunnels outside. Additionally, a pop-up studio was set up to offer guests Polaroid portrait opportunities. The evening's musical program commenced with Nepali-American singer-songwriter Parijita, who set a contemplative mood with her ballads, characterized by melodic vocals and gentle piano arrangements. Following Parijita, the London-based music duo ZENA elevated the tempo with a performance blending Ethiopian-inspired jazz and dub. Rapper Saiming, from South London, then took the stage, presenting a fusion of grime and neo-jazz, reflecting the diverse musical influences present. The night's performances culminated with Yussef Dayes's headline set. Guests gathered closely to experience his latest music, particularly in light of his recent announcement of a feature on Wyclef Jean's new album, "Q." During his 30-minute performance, Dayes presented a mix of his signature genre-bending jazz compositions, further solidifying the event's focus on innovative and diverse musical expressions within the London scene.
