Porsche Macan Petrol Production Ends July 2026

Porsche will conclude global production of its internal combustion engine (ICE) Macan SUV at the end of July 2026. This decision marks the end of an 11-year production run for a model that significantly influenced the German automaker's sales figures. The discontinuation creates a notable gap in Porsche's lineup during a period where demand for premium petrol vehicles remains strong. Dealerships will primarily rely on the recently launched battery-powered Macan Electric, as a direct petrol-powered successor is not expected to reach showrooms for approximately two more years.

Volkswagen Group CEO Oliver Blume has acknowledged that the company misjudged the speed at which consumers are transitioning to electric vehicles. Initial product strategies had anticipated a smoother shift to electric variants. Sales data from the first half of 2026 highlights the current market dynamics, with the aging ICE Macan model accounting for 19,695 of the 35,315 Macans delivered globally. This figure significantly outpaced the 15,620 units sold of its electric counterpart during the same period. The slower-than-anticipated growth in the electric vehicle sector across major global markets has prompted a substantial reevaluation of the company's electrification strategy.

The phase-out of the ICE Macan began earlier in the European Union. Porsche stopped regional sales of the combustion model to comply with updated General Safety Regulations, which would have required a complete redesign of the vehicle's electronic architecture to meet stringent new cybersecurity requirements. These regulations, part of broader efforts to enhance vehicle safety and data protection, presented a significant engineering and financial challenge for the existing ICE Macan platform.
