According to a report by Game File, Sony sent a private communication to PlayStation developers and publishers stating that re-orders for existing physical disc titles will be permitted after January 2028, provided the game was released before this cut-off date. This clarification builds upon a previous PlayStation blog post that indicated the discontinuation of physical disc production would not affect games already released or scheduled for release before January 2028 in disc format.

The reported private message suggests that publishers can continue to order physical stock of these pre-2028 titles even after the January 2028 deadline. While the exact process for re-ordering is expected to change post-transition, Sony has not yet provided specific details. This news emerges as Sony is actively dismantling its disc manufacturing capabilities. The company's disc factory in Salzburg, Austria, is being repurposed to produce optical microlenses, indicating a permanent shift away from disc production rather than a temporary measure.
