Platini begins legal proceedings against Fifa

Michel Platini initiated civil and criminal proceedings against FIFA and its current president, Gianni Infantino, on June 14, 2024, concerning alleged corruption dating back to 2015. Platini, a former UEFA president, claims that FIFA owes him approximately $7.3 million in unpaid salary and damages. This legal action stems from a FIFA ethics committee investigation that led to Platini receiving a six-year ban from football-related activities in 2015, a ban later reduced to four years by the Court of Arbitration for Sport. Platini maintains his innocence and asserts that the proceedings against him were politically motivated. The lawsuit, filed in a Swiss court, seeks to clear his name and recover financial losses. Infantino, who succeeded Sepp Blatter as FIFA president, has been a central figure in the ongoing reforms and investigations within the organization. Platini's legal team stated that the proceedings are intended to expose what they describe as a "campaign of persecution" orchestrated against him.
