Piglet, it’s a purple, psychedelic shapeshifter! The wild new creature prowling Winnie-the-Pooh’s wood

A new fantastical creature named Poppet has been introduced to Ashdown Forest, the inspiration for Winnie-the-Pooh's Hundred Acre Wood, as part of the "Big One Hundred" celebrations. Poppet is a large, purple, shapeshifting puppet designed by Jack Irving and operated by ten puppeteers. The creature features a prominent tubular nose, adder-inspired eyes, and iridescent patches that shimmer with psychedelic colors. It performs for schoolchildren, transforming into various forms such as a caterpillar, a bird, and a "munching monster" with fluid movements that elicit delighted fear from the children. The puppet's design aims to enchant new generations with the magic of the Hundred Acre Wood, drawing parallels to the fantastical creatures like the Heffalump and Woozle previously introduced in A.A. Milne's stories. Ashdown Forest, located in East Sussex, continues to be a site of imaginative storytelling and creative engagement.
