Panerai Launches Luminor Marina PAM01707 in Carbotech™

Panerai has officially introduced the new Luminor Marina PAM01707, a 44mm timepiece that combines historical naval design elements with advanced material innovation. The case of the PAM01707 is constructed from Carbotech™, a proprietary composite material derived from carbon fiber. This material is created by compressing carbon fiber with a high-performance polymer called PEEK (Polyether Ether Ketone) under specific high pressure and temperature conditions. The resulting Carbotech™ exhibits a matte black appearance with an irregular texture, ensuring that each watch case possesses a unique aesthetic. Panerai highlights that Carbotech™ is significantly lighter than traditional watchmaking materials, being 64% lighter than titanium and 80% lighter than steel. This exceptional strength-to-weight ratio, coupled with its high resistance to corrosion, makes it particularly suitable for demanding environments such as marine exploration.

The dial of the PAM01707 features a matte black sandwich construction, a design that allows for luminous material to be applied to a base plate, creating a layered effect. This dial is enhanced with vintage beige Super-LumiNova®, which emits a green glow in low light conditions, contributing to a classic tool-watch aesthetic. In a deliberate design choice that references Panerai's historical watches created for the Royal Italian Navy, the date window has been omitted from the dial. This decision aims to maintain a clean and uncluttered visual presentation. A small seconds sub-dial is positioned at the 9 o'clock position, a feature historically included to allow Italian commandos to confirm the watch's operational status during missions.

The 14.5mm thick case is complemented by a closed caseback made of DLC-coated titanium, providing durability and a sleek finish. The watch is supplied with two strap options: a warm brown vintage calf leather strap with beige stitching for a classic look, and a black rubber strap designed for more active or aquatic use. Powering the Luminor Marina PAM01707 is Panerai's in-house P.9010 automatic caliber. This movement measures 6mm in thickness and is composed of 200 individual components and 31 jewels. It operates at a frequency of 28,800 alternations per hour (4 Hz) and features two series-connected barrels that provide a substantial three-day power reserve. The P.9010 caliber incorporates practical functionalities designed for everyday use, including the ability to adjust the hour hand independently without affecting the minute hand, a useful feature for travelers. The watch offers a water resistance rating of 300 meters, further underscoring its robust and capable design.
