OM SYSTEM Revives PEN Line With Viewfinder, Splash Resistance

OM SYSTEM has reintroduced the PEN line of interchangeable-lens cameras with a new model that incorporates a rangefinder-style body and an integrated electronic viewfinder, marking a significant departure from previous PEN designs. This new camera is also the first in the PEN series to offer dust and splash resistance, rated at IPX1, which provides protection against water droplets when used with compatible lenses and when not charging or using the HDMI port. The OM SYSTEM PEN is scheduled for release in late October 2026 and will be available in both silver and black color options. The body-only configuration will retail for $999.99 USD. The camera features a compact design with a flat top, maintaining a streamlined silhouette. When equipped with its battery and memory card, the camera weighs approximately 393 grams. Internally, the device is powered by a 20.37-megapixel Live MOS sensor coupled with the TruePic IX image processing engine. For image stabilization, it utilizes a five-axis system that can provide up to 5.5 stops of compensation, measured at the center of the frame according to the manufacturer's testing protocols. The autofocus system is robust, employing 121 cross-type phase-detection points. It also integrates AI-driven subject detection capabilities, specifically trained to identify people, cats, and dogs, enhancing tracking accuracy and speed for these subjects. A dedicated switch located on the front of the camera allows users to access the Color and Monochrome Profile Control feature. This feature enables users to apply various presets and make custom adjustments to achieve a distinct film-inspired aesthetic in their images. Additionally, a separate computational photography button provides quick access to advanced imaging functions. These functions include high-resolution capture modes, Live ND filters for simulating long exposures, and focus stacking capabilities for achieving greater depth of field in macro photography. The IPX1 splash resistance rating signifies that the camera can withstand water splashes from any direction, but this protection is contingent on using a compatible dust- and splash-resistant lens. The kit version of the camera, which includes the new M.ZUIKO DIGITAL 14-42mm F3.5-5.6 III zoom lens, will be priced at $1,099.99 USD.
