The Obama Presidential Center opened to the public on June 19, 2024, in Chicago's Jackson Park neighborhood. The $850 million complex documents and celebrates the eight-year presidency of Barack Obama and includes an eight-story museum, a library, a community forum, and a sports facility. The museum features four levels of exhibits, memorabilia from the Obama family's time in the White House, and interactive activities, with an observation tower on the top floor offering views of the South Side. The design, particularly the museum tower's monolithic, nearly windowless granite form, has drawn significant criticism, with some comparing it to a mausoleum or prison. Georgia pastor Todd Friel described the building as "monstrous" and "downright ugly," likening it to a World War II-era German antiaircraft tower. The complex was designed by Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects, with landscape architecture by Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates.
