Nothing Phone (1) Ends Software Support With Final Update

The Nothing Phone (1) received its final official software update this week, officially concluding the device's software support lifecycle. This update, version 2.5.6, brings the Android security patch for April 2024 and includes minor bug fixes and stability improvements. While the company has not provided a specific end-of-life date for software support, this release signifies the cessation of further feature updates or major Android version upgrades for the original Nothing Phone.

Launched in July 2022, the Nothing Phone (1) was the company's debut smartphone, characterized by its distinctive transparent design and Glyph Interface. It initially shipped with Nothing OS 1.1.6 based on Android 12 and has since received two major Android version upgrades, reaching Android 14. The company committed to three years of Android version updates and four years of security patches for the device.

This final update means that users of the Nothing Phone (1) will no longer receive new features or security patches directly from Nothing. However, the device is expected to remain functional, and users may still be able to install custom ROMs if they wish to continue receiving software updates through third-party development. The end of support for the Phone (1) aligns with industry standards for smartphone software lifecycles.

Nothing has since launched the Nothing Phone (2) in July 2023 and the Nothing Phone (2a) in March 2024, both of which are currently receiving ongoing software support and updates. The company's focus will now shift towards maintaining and improving the software experience for its newer models.
