Nothing CEO says phone prices are going to keep going up

Nothing CEO Carl Pei stated that phone prices are expected to continue increasing, advising consumers that "the best time was yesterday" for purchasing a new device. Pei indicated on X that a shortage of RAM has already affected Nothing's more affordable mid-range phones, specifically mentioning the Phone 4A. He elaborated that the cost of RAM has risen by approximately 30% over the past year, forcing manufacturers to either increase prices or reduce specifications. Pei further explained that while Nothing has absorbed some of these increased costs for its flagship Phone 2, it is becoming unsustainable. He anticipates that other manufacturers will soon follow suit by raising prices or downgrading components like RAM and storage to maintain profitability. This trend is attributed to the growing demand for AI features on smartphones, which requires more memory.
