NOT A HOTEL and Pokémon Sleep Launch Poké Ball Hotel

NOT A HOTEL and Pokémon Sleep have collaborated to create a unique Poké Ball-themed hotel experience, featuring a three-meter diameter spherical bedroom situated on a lakeshore in Tomakomai City, Hokkaidō, Japan. This innovative structure serves as a celebration for both Pokémon's 30th anniversary and the third anniversary of the Pokémon Sleep app. The design, executed by NOT A HOTEL ARCHITECTS, utilizes molded acrylic hemispheres to form the sphere, with a custom sliding door engineered to integrate seamlessly into the curved exterior. Inside, a circular mattress is fitted to the rounded space, and a large, curved acrylic window offers views of the Hokkaido landscape. The interior environment is meticulously managed with integrated air conditioning and lighting systems designed for optimal comfort within the compact volume. Subtle thematic details are incorporated throughout, such as washroom tiles colored in homage to the Pokémon Snorlax. The technological integration within the room is a key feature, managed by NOT A HOTEL's proprietary smart-home system. Guests can select their preferred Pokémon via an in-room iPad, which then influences the interior lighting display once the main lights are dimmed, creating an immersive atmosphere that blends physical space with digital interaction. This comprehensive approach, where NOT A HOTEL developed everything from the architectural structure to the smart-home technology in-house, positions the project as a significant piece of product design scaled to accommodate overnight stays. The launch coincides with a notable period for both collaborating entities.
