Nirmal Purja, the renowned British-Nepali mountaineer whose extraordinary achievements were brought to global attention through the 2021 Netflix documentary "14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible," has tragically died in an avalanche on Broad Peak in Pakistan. The incident, which occurred on Thursday, July 30, claimed the lives of 10 individuals, with Purja being among the victims. He was 43 years old. His company, Elite Expeditions, confirmed the devastating news.

Purja rose to international prominence with his audacious "Project Possible." This ambitious undertaking saw him summit all 14 of the world's mountains exceeding 8,000 meters (26,247 feet) in an astonishingly short period of 6 months and 6 days.
