Nicholas Hoult to Play Gilderoy Lockhart in HBO's Harry Potter Series

Nicholas Hoult has been selected to portray the character of Gilderoy Lockhart in the second season of HBO's upcoming 'Harry Potter' television series. This casting announcement comes prior to the debut of the show's inaugural season. The second season is slated to adapt J.K. Rowling's "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets," introducing the character of the vain and deceptively heroic Defense Against the Dark Arts professor. Gilderoy Lockhart was previously portrayed by Kenneth Branagh in the 2002 film adaptation of the same novel. Hoult will be part of an ensemble cast that includes Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. Other cast members announced for the series include John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid. Filming for the second season is scheduled to commence this fall. Jon Brown is joining series developer Francesca Gardiner as co-showrunner. Mark Mylod is attached to direct and executive produce the series, alongside J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and David Heyman, who is producing through Warner Bros. Television. The first season of the 'Harry Potter' television series is officially scheduled to premiere on December 25 on HBO and Max. The adaptation aims to provide a faithful rendition of Rowling's seven-book series, with each season expected to cover approximately one book.
