Netflix Expands Top Boy Universe With Barry Keoghan Prequel

Netflix has officially announced the expansion of its acclaimed crime drama 'Top Boy' with two new spin-off series, 'Jonny Boy' and 'Jaq'. These projects delve deeper into the universe originally created by Ronan Bennett, focusing on different characters and timelines within the East London setting. The first spin-off, 'Jonny Boy,' is a five-episode prequel series penned by Ronan Bennett and directed by Ali Abbasi. This series will explore the formative years and origin story of the character Jonny McGee, portrayed by Oscar nominee Barry Keoghan. Keoghan is also set to executive produce 'Jonny Boy' through his company Wolfcub Productions, collaborating with Des Byrne. He joins an extensive list of executive producers that includes the original series creator Ronan Bennett, Charles Steel, Alasdair Flind, Aubrey “Drake” Graham, Adel “Future” Nur, Maverick Carter, and Jamal Henderson. The second spin-off, titled 'Jaq,' is a six-episode series conceived and written by Ryan Calais Cameron. It will follow Jacqueline, reprising her BAFTA TV award-winning role as played by Jasmine Jobson, as her story continues beyond the confines of the Summerhouse estate. Jobson and Cameron will also serve as executive producers for 'Jaq,' working alongside the established production team comprising Bennett, Steel, Flind, Graham, Nur, Carter, and Henderson. Both 'Jonny Boy' and 'Jaq' are slated to commence filming in the year 2027. Specific release dates for these new series have not yet been disclosed by Netflix, leaving fans to anticipate further details regarding their debut on the streaming platform.
