Nationwide nearly doubles CEO’s pay packet to £4.7m despite bonus row

Nationwide Building Society nearly doubled the pay package of its chief executive, Debbie Crosbie, to £4.7 million for the year ending March 2026. This represents an 88% increase from the nearly £2.5 million she earned in the previous year. The substantial rise in compensation is largely attributed to £3.2 million in bonuses, comprising payouts for both annual and longer-term performance. This follows a year where the board approved a bonus scheme for its top executive, which reportedly caused controversy. Nationwide, a mutual organization owned by its members, disclosed these figures in its annual report released on Monday. The building society recently completed its takeover of Virgin Money.
