Moscow hit by largest Ukrainian attack since start of Russia's full-scale war

Almost 200 Ukrainian drones struck an area to the southeast of Moscow on March 12, 2024, marking the largest aerial assault on the Russian capital since the commencement of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The attack resulted in a refinery and a shopping center catching fire. Russian air defenses reportedly intercepted a significant portion of the drones, with debris falling in several districts. The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that 114 drones were neutralized over the Belgorod region, 43 over the Voronezh region, and 39 over the Rostov region. Ukrainian intelligence sources indicated that the drones targeted military infrastructure and oil refineries. This event follows a pattern of increased Ukrainian drone activity targeting Russian territory, including energy facilities, in recent months. The scale of this attack suggests a significant escalation in Ukraine's efforts to disrupt Russian logistical and industrial capabilities.
