Over 100 Sick on Princess Cruises Ship From Suspected Norovirus

More than 100 passengers and approximately 23 crew members aboard a Princess Cruises vessel have fallen ill with suspected norovirus, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed this week. This incident marks the third norovirus outbreak to affect one of the company's ships in 2026. The Ruby Princess departed from San Francisco on June 12, embarking on a voyage to Alaska and Canada, with a planned return on July 2. The CDC was notified of the outbreak more than two weeks into the journey. An outbreak is officially defined by the CDC as occurring when 3% or more of passengers report illness. The Ruby Princess was carrying 3,032 passengers and 1,144 crew members at the time of the report. The ship is currently docked in San Francisco for disinfection procedures. This is the third reported norovirus outbreak on a Princess Cruises ship this year, indicating a recurring issue for the cruise line. Norovirus is a highly contagious virus that causes vomiting and diarrhea, and is often referred to as the "stomach flu."
