Modest Delaware Home Boasts Incredible Connections to American History Over 250 Years

David E. Deputy and his wife Florence purchased the Spring Grove Mill House in Hockessin, Delaware, in 2017, unaware of its extensive connections to American history. Deputy, a former captain with the Delaware State Police and retired brigadier general with the Delaware Air National Guard, discovered the home's significance after acquiring an 1868 historical map that indicated the dwelling, constructed in the early 1800s, was formerly a mill. His investigative background proved instrumental in uncovering the property's past, which spans from the Revolutionary War era to the first moon landing. Deputy's research involved examining county deeds, tax records, old maps, archives, newspaper clippings, and ancestry sites, as well as speaking with former residents and studying local artifacts like cannonballs. This meticulous investigation revealed that the Spring Grove Mill House has been a silent witness to over 250 years of American history. Deputy has documented his findings in a new book titled "The Spring Grove Mill House."
