Amble One Electric Buggy Revealed by Audi R8 Designer

Portuguese startup Amble has unveiled its debut vehicle, the Amble One, a street-legal electric buggy designed to compete in the microcar segment. The vehicle is the creation of Julian Hoenig, a designer previously involved with the Audi R8 and Apple Watch, and Cowboy co-founder Adrien Roose. Initially envisioned as a premium option for luxury resorts, the Amble One has been developed into an L7e-homologated heavy quadricycle suitable for short-distance travel. The design emphasizes an open-air experience, removing traditional automotive barriers like doors and a sealed cabin to enhance passenger connection with their surroundings.

The Amble One draws aesthetic inspiration from the 1971 NASA lunar rover, combined with design elements reminiscent of the Series I Land Rover and a vintage Ford Bronco. Its engineering is intentionally exposed, utilizing a skateboard-style platform and an aluminum frame accented with prominent orange screws to signify its modular construction. The interior features materials selected for their ability to age gracefully, including a cork steering wheel and seating upholstered in marine-grade canvas and leather.

Performance specifications for the Amble One are geared towards its adventure-focused purpose. It is equipped with a 12 kWh lithium-ion battery and a 15kW rear-wheel-drive motor, providing an estimated range of 62 miles. While L7e regulations allow for speeds up to 56mph, Amble has limited the vehicle's top speed to 40mph to enhance torque delivery. The buggy weighs under 450kg, contributing to its agile performance for its intended use.

The Amble One is priced at approximately £24,000 GBP (around $32,000 USD). Initial distribution plans are focused on luxury hospitality partners, with deliveries expected to commence in 2027. Following this initial phase, the company intends to expand sales to general consumers in 2028.
