Lucid Reduces Production and Lays Off 18 Percent of Its Workforce

Lucid Group announced significant workforce reductions on May 7, 2024, laying off approximately 18 percent of its employees. This marks the second round of substantial layoffs for the electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer this year, following a similar reduction in force earlier in 2024. In addition to the job cuts, Chief Operating Officer Marc Winterhoff has also departed the company. The company has not disclosed the exact number of employees affected by this latest round of layoffs, but previous reports indicated Lucid had around 3,500 employees at the end of 2023. The company's financial performance and production targets have been under scrutiny, prompting these measures to streamline operations and reduce costs. Lucid has been working to ramp up production of its Air sedan and is also preparing for the launch of its Gravity SUV. These strategic adjustments are aimed at improving the company's financial position and operational efficiency as it navigates a competitive EV market.
