LoveSac Furnishes Hypebeast Cup NYC With Nostalgic Seating

LoveSac has furnished the viewing area at the Hypebeast Cup event in New York City, creating a nostalgic basement-era atmosphere for attendees. The company's signature plush chairs, known as Sacs, are providing comfortable seating for guests to watch the World Cup matches. The event runs at 430 West Broadway until July 19.

The Sac, while resembling a beanbag, is distinct in its construction. It does not contain beans. The original Sac was created in 1995 by 18-year-old Shawn Nelson in his parents' Salt Lake City basement. Nelson used remnants from his family's camping mattresses as stuffing, which allows Sacs to maintain their shape unlike traditional beanbags that tend to deflate. Nelson began selling Sacs from his van at college events and officially registered the company name in 1998 for $25. He later secured a significant order for 12,000 units from a national teen retailer before establishing a manufacturing facility.

LoveSac opened its first store in 2001, and subsequently introduced its modular Sactionals sofa in 2006. The current Sacs are manufactured using a Durafoam blend. The distinctive silhouette of the Sac evokes memories of dorm rooms, basements, and casual gatherings during summer tournaments. The arrangement of Sacs within the Hypebeast Cup clubhouse is designed to encourage extended stays and communal viewing experiences.
