LOV. Foundation and XTANT Partner on Craft Preservation

LOV. Foundation and XTANT have established a long-term cultural partnership dedicated to the preservation of craft and the intergenerational transmission of creative knowledge. This collaboration commenced with lov.YATRA, an immersive program held in Mallorca during the summer. The initiative, drawing its name from the Sanskrit word 'yatra' meaning 'a purposeful journey or pilgrimage,' aimed to explore Mallorca as a locale shaped by enduring material traditions, collective memory, and continuous creative exchange.

The lov.YATRA program featured the inauguration of XTANT Nomad, an event that brought together an international assembly of artists, artisans, collectors, academics, and cultural practitioners engaged in contemporary craft. Through a series of exhibitions, dialogues, and practical workshops, textiles were highlighted not only as an artistic medium but also as a significant vehicle for narrative, ritual, and cultural inheritance. The program's scope extended across Mallorca, incorporating visits to private artist studios, galleries, and several of the island's most historically and culturally important sites.

Participants in the lov.YATRA program engaged with the legacy of artists like Joan Miró by visiting his former studios and archives at the Fundació Pilar i Joan Miró. The itinerary also included access to restricted areas of La Seu and a visit to Can Vivot, a 14th-century palacio that has remained in the possession of the same family for twenty-one generations. Further enriching the experience, a gathering at Son Moragues, situated within the UNESCO-listed Serra de Tramuntana, connected artistic practices with principles of regenerative agriculture and land stewardship. Culinary explorations at Brut Restaurant and Bar LaSang delved into the ways local ecosystems, fermentation processes, and independent production contribute to Mallorca's broader creative identity.

Rather than framing heritage as a static entity, lov.YATRA sought to understand how traditional knowledge is continually reshaped and reinterpreted by contemporary artists and makers. This partnership underscores a commitment to safeguarding artisanal skills and cultural narratives, ensuring their relevance and evolution for future generations. The collaboration aims to foster a deeper appreciation for the living culture of craft and its multifaceted role in society.
