Lost memoir of Hiroshima survivor found after decades in US archive

Kiyoshi Tanimoto's 230-page memoir detailing his experiences during the atomic bombing of Hiroshima in 1945 will be published in August, nearly 80 years after it was written. The manuscript was discovered in a US archive, having been penned in 1947. Tanimoto's firsthand account of the devastation is now being adapted into a major feature film, with pre-production scheduled to commence in November and filming set to begin in February 2027. Actor Takehiro Hira, known for his role in the Netflix drama Giri/Haji, is slated to portray Tanimoto in the film.
