Taiki Yokote Exhibits Liminal Art Across Tokyo Galleries
Japanese artist Taiki Yokote is presenting a dual-venue solo exhibition titled "to make today lovely, too" and "to make today lonely, too" across two Tokyo galleries, CON_ and parcel. The exhibition, which opened recently and runs until July 26, features a diverse range of media including installations, sculptures, videos, and photography. Yokote's work explores the liminal spaces between delusion, fantasy, and reality, focusing on often overlooked moments of the everyday.
The two exhibitions, housed in adjacent yet distinct spaces within the CON_ and parcel venues, offer contrasting yet complementary experiences. "to make today lovely, too" is located at parcel (2F), while "to make today lonely, too" is at CON_ (4F). This duality is reflected in the exhibition's themes, playing on the subtle yet significant difference between "lovely" and "lonely." The artist's fascination with unseen moments and untold stories is conveyed through his choice of materials and subjects.
Visitors can experience Yokote's signature levitating rock sculptures, alongside installations such as billowing blue tarps that evoke a slow dance. The exhibition also includes large-scale prints capturing fleeting details like animal scratches and dust, as well as broken concrete pieces suspended in mid-air. These elements collectively highlight the artist's exploration of the ambiguity found in perception and the emotional spectrum of human experience.
CON_ & parcel, located at Maruka bldg, 2-2-14 Nihonbashi-Bakurocho, serves as the physical space for this exploration. A statement from CON_ noted that "Tenderness and loneliness, relief and anxiety are not separate emotions but two sides of the same day," emphasizing the interconnectedness of seemingly disparate feelings and the impact of perspective on how we view the world.
