The company has partnered with French choreographer Angelin Preljocaj to create a ballet project that aims to narrate the brand's ethos, from its natural origins to its deeper cultural significance. This initiative builds upon Preljocaj's established career in contemporary ballet, which includes previous collaborations with institutions like the Musée d'Orsay and Fondation Louis Vuitton. The creative process for this project began with Preljocaj immersing himself in the writings of L'Occitane en Provence founder, Olivier Baussan. Specifically, Preljocaj explored Baussan's texts such as "The Subtle Alchemy of the Drip" and "The Metamorphosis of Matter." These writings, which detail the foundational actions of sowing, cultivating, and harvesting central to L'Occitane's identity, provided Preljocaj with insights into the brand's core philosophy. He sought to find parallels between these agricultural gestures and the expressive language of ballet. In an interview discussing the collaborative effort, Baussan highlighted a shared sensibility between his work with plants and stories and Preljocaj's focus on bodily movement, stating, "We share the same sensitivity to the subtle." This artistic dialogue between the worlds of ballet and beauty has culminated in a 20-minute dance piece titled "D’un geste simple," which translates to "From a simple gesture." The performance is set against the evocative backdrop of lavender fields in Provence, France. The choreography is designed to interpret L'Occitane en Provence's processes of harvesting flowers and distilling essential oils for its products, employing bold and dynamic movements. Reflecting on the artistic outcome, Baussan commented on the intrinsic connection between beauty, time, and deliberate action. He observed, "Beauty often arises from slowness, from attention, and from repeated gestures."
