Locarno First Look Selects Six Uruguayan Films

Locarno Pro's work-in-progress section, First Look, has announced its selection of six new Uruguayan titles for its 15th edition. This year's focus on Uruguay is a collaboration with the Uruguayan film institute, ACAU. The selected projects represent a diverse range of genres and themes.

Among the chosen films is "Maltrato animal" by José Dell’Acqua Postiglione. This film centers on a veterinarian facing personal hardship who becomes entangled in an illegal network. Another project, "El viento que arrastra" by Ana Laura Calderón, explores the complexities of family relationships and the lingering impact of past events.

The selection also includes "El día que no volví" by Martín Boggiano, a drama delving into themes of memory and identity. "La espera" by Virginia Bogliolo examines the emotional landscape of anticipation and longing. "El amor es una obra en construcción" by Federico Veiroj offers a narrative focused on the evolution of relationships and personal growth.

Rounding out the selection is "El persistente" by Juan Manuel Domínguez, a film described as exploring desire that "persists across oceans." These six films will be presented to international industry professionals, aiming to secure co-production, financing, and distribution opportunities.
