Larry June Stars in Pierre Paulin's "Keep Tryin" Music Video

Rapper Larry June is featured in "Keep Tryin," the inaugural music video from Sounds Like Paulin, a cultural initiative established by Benjamin and Alice Paulin. This initiative aims to connect the design legacy of the late French designer Pierre Paulin with contemporary music and culture. The collaboration began in 2024 when Larry June encountered Pierre Paulin's furniture designs during a visit to Paris. Inspired by this encounter, June subsequently purchased a Dune Ensemble for his residence in the Bay Area, which later served as inspiration for his musical track "Imported Couches." The "Keep Tryin" music video extends this creative dialogue by incorporating Paulin's renowned 1967 Tongue chair. For this specific project, the iconic chair has been reinterpreted with a vibrant fluorescent orange hue, complemented by contrasting green stitching and detailing. This specially commissioned chair marks the launch of DroPPP, a new series dedicated to producing special-edition Pierre Paulin pieces. These editions are developed in collaboration with artists who are part of the Sounds Like Paulin universe, with photography for the series provided by Julien Boudet. In the video, the Tongue chair transcends its role as a mere backdrop, becoming an integral element of the visual narrative of "Keep Tryin." It facilitates a dialogue between Larry June's characteristic laid-back West Coast aesthetic and one of Pierre Paulin's most recognizable design creations. The music video and the first DroPPP edition were released concurrently with the unveiling of a dedicated installation at Cahiers d’Art in Paris. The Sounds Like Paulin initiative seeks to bridge the worlds of design and music, bringing iconic pieces into new cultural contexts through collaborations with contemporary artists. Pierre Paulin, a prolific French designer, is celebrated for his innovative and often organic forms, with the Tongue chair being a prime example of his mid-century modern contributions to furniture design. The collaboration with Larry June highlights a modern approach to engaging with design heritage, using music and visual media to introduce these pieces to new audiences. The DroPPP series aims to continue this engagement by commissioning further artist-designed editions of Paulin's work.
