Kinepolis Acquires Showcase Cinemas in $30 Million Deal

Kinepolis acquired the Showcase Cinemas circuit in the U.S. from Harbor Lights Entertainment on March 18, 2024, for $30 million. This acquisition includes 13 cinema locations, with seven situated in Massachusetts, four in New York, one in Ohio, and one in Rhode Island. The deal encompasses ownership of six of these cinemas, while the remaining seven are operated under existing lease agreements. Kinepolis, headquartered in Belgium, is a major European cinema operator, and this acquisition marks a significant expansion into the North American market. Harbor Lights Entertainment, formerly known as National Amusements, divested these assets as part of a strategic realignment. The transaction is expected to be finalized by the end of the second quarter of 2024, pending regulatory approvals.
