Former Qatar Emir Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani Dies

Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the former Emir of Qatar, died on Sunday at the age of 84. His 18-year reign, from 1995 to 2013, marked a period of significant transformation for Qatar, propelling the nation to global prominence and considerable economic prosperity. He ascended to power in a bloodless coup, ousting his father, Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani.

During his rule, Sheikh Hamad oversaw Qatar's rapid development, leveraging its vast natural gas reserves to fund ambitious infrastructure projects and diversify the economy.
