Paramount+ Orders Jez Butterworth Highland Drama Starring Kenneth Branagh

Paramount+ has officially ordered a new drama series titled 'Laird,' created by Jez Butterworth and his brother John-Henry Butterworth. The series will star Academy Award-nominated actor Kenneth Branagh, who will also serve as an executive producer. This marks the third series collaboration between the Butterworth brothers and 101 Studios for Paramount+.

'Laird' is set against the backdrop of the Scottish Highlands and is described as a drama. Jez Butterworth is known for his acclaimed work on "Jerusalem" and the screenplay for "Ford v Ferrari." John-Henry Butterworth co-created "The Agency" with his brother, which is also a Paramount+ series. Their previous joint project for the streamer includes "The Agency," and they also co-created "Partner Track."

Kenneth Branagh, a five-time Academy Award nominee, brings significant acting and producing experience to the project. His recent credits include "Oppenheimer" and "Mayday." The involvement of Branagh as both star and executive producer suggests a high level of creative investment in 'Laird.'

101 Studios, the production company behind 'Laird,' has a growing slate with Paramount+. Their existing series on the streamer include "Mayor of Kingstown" and "Tulsa King." The partnership with the Butterworths and now Branagh further solidifies 101 Studios' relationship with the streaming platform, aiming to deliver high-profile scripted content.
