Karmelo Anthony, 19, found guilty of murder of Austin Metcalf in one-week trial

A Collin County, Texas, jury found Karmelo Anthony, now 19, guilty of murder on June 6, 2026, for the fatal stabbing of Austin Metcalf the previous year. The one-week trial, from jury selection to verdict, garnered national attention due to the racial dynamics of the case, with Anthony being Black and Metcalf being white. The jury, composed of 12 jurors and six alternates, did not include any Black members. Anthony and Metcalf, both 17 at the time, encountered each other during a Frisco Independent School District track meet in April 2025. A sudden rain shower led to a confrontation when Anthony sought shelter under the Memorial High School tent, where Metcalf was present. This altercation resulted in Anthony stabbing Metcalf, who was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
