Karlovy Vary Unveils Central European Projects for Central Stage Showcase, Launches Book-to-Screen Spotlight

KVIFF Promises, the industry program of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, revealed its selected works-in-progress from Central Europe for the KVIFF Central Stage showcase on June 28, 2024. This year's selection features 11 upcoming films, including "The Last Ones" from Poland, directed by Piotr Domalewski, and "The Man Who Couldn't Remember" from the Czech Republic, directed by Ivan Zachariáš. The festival also launched its inaugural Book-to-Screen initiative, highlighting 10 books identified as having strong potential for film adaptation. Among these literary works are "The Island of the Missing Trees" by Elif Shafak and "The House of Doors" by Tan Twan Eng. The Book-to-Screen initiative aims to connect literary agents and publishers with film producers to facilitate adaptation deals. KVIFF Central Stage provides a platform for filmmakers to present their projects to international distributors and festival programmers, fostering co-production opportunities and securing distribution for emerging European cinema. The festival's industry program continues to be a crucial venue for networking and deal-making within the European film landscape.
