Karl Lagerfeld Estate Auction in Paris Exceeds $836,000 USD

Sotheby's Paris concluded the sixth and final auction of Karl Lagerfeld's personal estate this week, generating €731,008 EUR (approximately $836,000 USD) and achieving a 100 percent sell-through rate. The auction, titled "KARL, Karl Lagerfeld’s Estate VI, Inspirations," featured over 1,000 items including sketches, personal gadgets, and memorabilia, collectively selling for three times the high estimate. A caricature of former German Chancellor Angela Merkel was the top lot, fetching €23,040 EUR (approximately $26,000 USD), nearly 60 times its initial valuation. Other notable sales included six Swedish cast iron benches for €19,200 EUR and a portfolio of nearly 100 working documents that sold for over €14,000 EUR. The collection also included Karl Lagerfeld's extensive assortment of 200 iPods and his signature fingerless metallic leather gloves. This final auction provided a detailed look into the creative life and collecting habits of the late fashion designer, with proceeds benefiting his estate.
