Julia Holter Announces New Album Materia

Julia Holter released her new album, Materia, on June 21, 2024, serving as a sonic companion to her 2024 LP, Something in the Room She Moves. The album features 11 tracks, including previously released singles like "Spinning" and "Sun Girl." Materia was produced by Holter herself and mixed by Cole M. Greif-Neill, known for his work with artists such as Fiona Apple and St. Vincent. The album's conceptual framework draws inspiration from the scientific concept of "materia," exploring themes of transformation, substance, and the fundamental building blocks of existence. Holter stated in a press release that the album "explores the idea of substance and transformation, how things come into being and change." The tracklist includes "Spinning," "Sun Girl," "Materia," "The Edge of the World," "I Shall Sing," "Time Travel," "The Sea," "Echoes," "The Light," "The Sound," and "The End." The album was released via Domino Records, Holter's longtime label.
