Journal Standard relume has reengineered the iconic Barbour Solway Zipper into a special-order jacket, the Solway Zipper Modify, focusing on three key construction changes to adapt the archive piece for contemporary urban wear. The most substantial alteration involves the jacket's shell material. Instead of the traditional waxed cotton, relume has opted for a non-oiled blend of 75% cotton and 25% nylon. This high-density weave offers a lighter feel and eliminates the sticky residue associated with oiled finishes, making the jacket more practical for daily use in confined spaces like public transport or car interiors, without the associated maintenance or transfer issues. The jacket features a full cotton lining and a cotton collar, maintaining a comfortable feel against the skin. The second significant modification is to the jacket's cut and silhouette. relume has shortened the original's longer profile and removed the waist belt, reshaping it into a relaxed mid-length that falls just below the hip. This adjusted proportion is designed to facilitate layering, providing ample room for thicker knitwear without creating a restrictive fit. The shorter hem also enhances comfort when seated, repositioning the Solway Zipper from a formal countryside coat to a versatile everyday outerwear piece. The third notable addition is a drawcord integrated into the hem.
