Josh Duhamel's Off-Grid Cabin Prepared Him for 'Ransom Canyon'

Actor Josh Duhamel revealed that his off-grid cabin in Minnesota served as extensive preparation for his role as a rancher in the Netflix series "Ransom Canyon." Duhamel, 53, has owned the property for over a decade, gradually developing it into a self-sufficient retreat.

Duhamel explained during an appearance on "CBS Mornings" that the similarities between his life at the Minnesota property and his character Staten Kirkland's life as a ranch owner are significant. He described the cabin as being on "a lot of property, a lot of land we have to take care of," which mirrors the responsibilities of his on-screen persona.

The actor indicated that his time at the cabin influenced his decision to accept the role. He was at the property when showrunner April Blair first approached him about "Ransom Canyon" approximately three years ago, stating he was "in the mood to do something like this" and that Blair contacted him at an opportune moment.

While Duhamel highlighted the parallels, he also noted some distinctions between his personal life and his character's. Notably, he does not currently own horses, a key element for a rancher, unlike his on-screen counterpart. The series, which features Duhamel as a ranch owner, is set to release its second season.
