Joni Mitchell's Former Malibu Home Listed for $27 Million

Joni Mitchell's former Malibu beach house has been listed for sale at $26.99 million, marking its first appearance on the market in nearly 40 years. The property, custom-designed for the iconic singer, was purchased by Mitchell in the early 1980s on beachfront land. Acclaimed architect Ron Goldman was commissioned to design the retreat. Mitchell sold the home in 1988 to a board director of The Walt Disney Company, and it has remained within that family until now.

The residence is situated in the exclusive Malibu Colony enclave and boasts several unique features that are difficult to replicate under current coastal regulations. These include a "grandfathered pool and spa" located on a large backyard deck that directly overlooks Colony Beach, offering unobstructed ocean views. According to Joyce Rey of Coldwell Banker Realty, who is co-listing the property, these amenities would be "extraordinarily difficult to recreate today."

Rey, along with colleagues Nanette Iggulden, Jody Katz, and Leona Katz of Estates and Trusts Realty, are handling the sale. Rey described the property as "magnificent in every respect," highlighting its "refined architectural design," "beautifully considered interiors," and "irreplaceable Malibu setting." The unique combination of rare beachfront amenities and its prime location contributes to the property's significant asking price.
