Jonathan Van Ness Rehomes Dog After Cat Attack

Jonathan Van Ness, 39, revealed on Instagram this week that their dog, George, has been rehomed following a severe attack on their cat, Liza. The incident, which occurred around June 2, resulted in Liza sustaining life-threatening injuries, including a broken jaw, and requiring emergency surgery. Van Ness described the event as "devastating" and one of the most difficult they have faced.
Van Ness explained that the confrontation happened on the stairs of their New York City home. While Liza initially swatted at George, the dog "freaked out" and attacked the cat. Van Ness clarified that George did not bite Liza but inflicted the injury through sheer force, noting they knew the jaw was broken immediately upon seeing the cat. Liza was treated at the Schwarzman Animal Medical Center in Manhattan.
In a caption accompanying a video and images, Van Ness, who uses they/he/she pronouns, expressed gratitude for the ability to care for their pets. They emphasized that such situations are challenging for "every animal family" but highlighted the importance of supporting each other and the animals. Van Ness lives between Austin, Texas, and New York with their husband, Mark Peacock.
The "Queer Eye" star's candid sharing aims to offer insight into the complexities of pet ownership and the difficult decisions that can arise. The incident underscores the unpredictable nature of animal interactions, even within the same household, and the emotional toll such events can take on pet owners.
