Jeremy Clarkson Sells Three Grand Tour Cars

Jeremy Clarkson, the prominent television presenter and journalist known for his work on Top Gear and The Grand Tour, is selling three of his most recognizable vehicles that featured in the Amazon Prime Video automotive series. The sale, managed by auction house Bonhams, includes a Lancia Delta Integrale Evo II, a BMW M5 (E39), and a Mercedes-Benz G350d Professional. These vehicles represent significant moments and challenges faced by Clarkson during his tenure on the show, making them highly sought after by collectors and fans.

The Lancia Delta Integrale Evo II, finished in a distinctive Martini livery, is particularly notable as it was the car Clarkson drove in his final episode of The Grand Tour, titled 'Seven New Wonders of the World.' This episode, which aired in December 2023, marked the end of his time with the show. The Lancia, a rally homologation special known for its robust four-wheel-drive system and turbocharged engine, was put through its paces in the episode, highlighting its enduring capabilities. Clarkson acquired this particular model in 2018.

Also up for auction is a 2014 BMW M5 (E39) sedan. This performance-oriented German car was used by Clarkson in an episode where he tested its ability to outrun a police car. The E39 M5 is celebrated for its naturally aspirated 4.9-liter V8 engine, producing 394 horsepower, and its reputation as one of the last great analog M5s before the introduction of turbocharging. Clarkson's example has reportedly covered approximately 50,000 miles.

The third vehicle is a 2017 Mercedes-Benz G350d Professional. This rugged off-road vehicle, often referred to as a 'G-Wagen,' was utilized by Clarkson in an episode that involved navigating challenging terrain in the Scottish Highlands. The G350d Professional variant is designed for extreme utility, featuring a more basic interior and enhanced off-road capabilities compared to standard G-Class models. Clarkson purchased this vehicle in 2017, and it has been driven around 63,000 miles.

These sales come at a time when Clarkson has been involved in various projects, including his farming documentary 'Clarkson's Farm' on Amazon Prime Video, which showcases his attempts to run a farm in the Cotswolds. The auction of these Grand Tour cars offers enthusiasts a unique opportunity to own a piece of automotive television history, directly associated with one of the most famous motoring personalities of the past three decades. The auction is scheduled to take place on March 23, 2024, at The Grand Palais in Paris.
