Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has engaged in discussions regarding joining an investment consortium aiming to acquire a minority stake in Liverpool FC. This consortium is reportedly led by former Queens Park Rangers co-owner Amit Bhatia and includes backing from the billionaire Mittal family. Fenway Sports Group, the current owner of Liverpool FC, has confirmed that these talks are ongoing concerning a strategic minority investment.

While discussions have occurred, a source indicated that Bezos has not yet committed to finalizing any deal. The potential investment would represent a significant influx of American capital into a prominent English football club. Amit Bhatia has taken steps to facilitate this potential transaction by transferring his ownership shares in Queens Park Rangers to Ruben Gnanalingam on July 21, concluding his 18-year involvement with the club. During his tenure at QPR, Bhatia was part of the leadership that saw the team promoted to the Premier League in the 2010-2011 season.

Bhatia, a 46-year-old entrepreneur, is married to Vanisha Mittal, daughter of Indian steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal, whose net worth is estimated at over £22 billion GBP (approximately $29.4 billion USD). The financial strength of the Mittal family is a key component of the proposed acquisition. The potential involvement of Jeff Bezos, whose net worth Forbes estimates at nearly $257 billion USD, would introduce an unprecedented level of wealth to the negotiations. Bezos has previously considered acquiring major American sports franchises, including the Seattle Seahawks and the Washington Commanders, but ultimately did not proceed with those opportunities.
