The group detailed five distinct mechanisms that they claim Israel is employing to dismantle Palestinian collective life in the occupied territory. These mechanisms, according to B'Tselem's analysis, are designed to systematically erode the foundations of Palestinian society and their ability to exist as a cohesive community.

One of the primary mechanisms identified by B'Tselem is the expansion of settlements. The organization points to the continuous construction and growth of Israeli settlements in the West Bank, which often encroach upon Palestinian land and resources. This expansion is seen as a direct physical displacement and fragmentation of Palestinian communities, isolating them and limiting their access to essential services and agricultural lands.
