Inside Why ‘Home Improvement’ Is Not Coming Back Anytime Soon

Tim Allen's sitcom "Home Improvement" is not being rebooted, according to sources speaking to Variety. The popular show, which aired for eight seasons from 1991 to 1999, featured Allen as Tim Taylor, a well-meaning but accident-prone television host of a DIY show. Discussions about a potential revival have occurred over the years, but no concrete plans have materialized. The original series concluded with the Taylor family moving to Michigan, and a reboot would need to address the passage of time and the current lives of the characters. While the cast has expressed interest in revisiting their roles, including Patricia Richardson who played Tim's wife Jill, and Jonathan Taylor Thomas, Taran Noah Smith, and Zachery Ty Bryan who played the three sons, the logistical and creative challenges of bringing the show back have proven significant. The network that aired the original show, ABC, has not officially commented on the possibility of a reboot.
